Technology!!!!!

If you are a regular reader you will know that our news service has been down for a good few hours, it seems that our hosting company in Switzerland had a major hardware meltdown yesterday, which did not seem to affect us, BUT when they put all the damaged hardware back on-line at midnight it corrupted a large number of the website databases including Vertikal.Net news.

The frustrating thing was that the company’s switchboard has been jammed all day as companies like us try to find out what is happening and apply pressure.

The news database had in fact been completely lost as several hard drives went down at the same time. Thankfully our database was backed up on Tuesday night so we have only lost 36 hours or so of data, which we can replicate without too much effort.

We sincerely apologise for this interruption to your service, thankfully it was a fairly quiet news day and many of you are still on vacation, but it has still caused us a good deal of upset.

It has prompted us to take action, we have been considering options for sometime, although the shear size of Vertikal.Net has limited our choices. Vertikal.net is one of the larger web portals now and still growing at a rapid pace, so some of the best new hosting companies can not accommodate us.

However we have approved the investment today that should see us migrate to a new location within the next two weeks, we believe that this will not only provide us with a better service, but might also provide a few extra benefits for our readers and customers.
