PM has supplied 42 lorry cranes for the Ethiopian Electrical Power Corporation
Luigi Fucili, Managing Director of PM Group said that the operating conditions in Ethiopia are far harsher to those in Europe. The order for the 42 Iveco vehicles (21 road tractors and 21 tractors trailers) equipped with rear-mounted cranes produced by PM, is a large order for the Ethiopian Electrical Corporation, the restul of the Ethiopian government carrying out many large infrastructure projects considered essential for the growth of the country.

The PM cranes have a 12 meter horizontal and 16 meter vertical reach.
PM (which is part of the PM Group, along with Oil&Steel, Pilosio and Lama) along with Iveco has been working on this project since the end of 2005, evaluating the cranes that would be most suitable for working in Ethiopia.
Besides favouring the use of hydraulic systems instead of electronics - easier maintenance - the cranes underwent special testing and treatment especially related to the paint in order to increase their resistance to sand. For the same reason, a triple oil filter was used. The hydraulic cranes have an overall weight of 2,560 kg are capable of reaching a horizontal extension beyond 12 meters and a vertical extension of 16 meters.
Maintenance for the vehicles and cranes will be carried by the Iveco Amce branch present in Ethiopia. However, for particular needs, PM is capable of providing its own assistance services on site.
The PM Group is made up of three units: PM (lorry cranes), which covers 51.1 percent of turnover, Oil&Steel (truck-mounted and tracked platforms) for 28.2 percent and Pilosio (scaffolding and formwork) which represents the remaining 20.9 percent of turnover.
The PM Group overall claims to have produced 4,200 lorry cranes and 1,100 aerial platforms in 2006. It has 563 employees in six production plants (five in Italy and one in Romania).
