A new crane tyre for the UK
Davies Crane Hire of Carmarthen, South Wales has become the first significant UK crane company to switch to Double Coin crane tyres as its preferred brand, following an extended evaluation period.
The tyres are being supplied by Liverpool based Kirkby Tyres & Wheels, the exclusive distributor for Double Coin tyres in the UK and Ireland, with Carmarthenshire Tyre Services providing the local support.
Davies Crane Hire was established in 1979 and operates from three depots in Carmarthen, Milford Haven and Port Talbot, with All Terrain and crawler cranes ranging from an eight to 200 tonnes capacity.

Managing director, Malcolm Davies said: “In today’s competitive world businesses need to occasionally ‘think outside the box’ and this is exactly what we have done concerning Double Coin crane tyres. After testing the product over a number of months alongside other more well known brands, I am now convinced that switching to Double Coin has been the right decision which is already paying dividends in both cost and product quality. The turnover of our tyres is reasonably high so it is vitally important to be working with such a reliable and cost effective brand that includes a high level of service support when required”.
Delme Owens, managing director of Carmarthenshire Tyre Services said: “We tested the tyre against other well known major brands and I am completely satisfied that it is a good reliable mid-range tyre at a very competitive price. In my opinion it is the perfect alternative to a premium brand.”
Carmarthenshire Tyre Services was established just four years ago and has quickly become a leading tyre retailer and wholesaler in South Wales offering all types of tyres from a wheelbarrow right through to cranes.
Double Coin tyres are manufactured in China and have been present on the North American market since 1992 where it has built up a strong position in the truck and bus market. More recently it has introduced a range of off road and specialist tyres such as the All Terrain crane tyres that Davies is now using.
