Crane boom collapse in NY state
The lattice crane boom of a small crawler crane collapsed yesterday in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The crane's boom went over the back
The boom struck the boundary fence of the yard, and narrowly missed overhead wires. It is not clear what caused the collapse, as far as we know neither of the two hoist cables broke, nor was a load dropped. It may therefore have been a case of two blocking?

An investigation is currently looking into the incident. Thankfully no was injured in the incident.
Ryan, he’s still a wannabee operator at best, without very many years in the business, much less the seat, and he’s doesn’t know squat about any other countries or their safety records. He likes to spew the trash just to see who buys it. He has his facts screwed up about Americans and always has prejudice remarks about the US, even tho he’s never been here or worked here. When he’s not staring at himself in the mirror, he talking trash just to get a rise out of anyone he can. All mouth and no knowledge! All accusations and no facts. He has ZERO craning credibility on the web, and readers see pretty fast that he is just a lot of insults. He wants to play a long distance computer tough guy, because on a real job he would be beaten to a pulp for his mouth and attitude. In fact, he almost was nearly beaten to a pulp once in a road rage incident where his usual PREJUDICE mouth got him in a confrontation which eventually ended up involving a bat and a knife. Even after that he still hasn’t learned how to respectfully communicate, other than to start off his trash talk with an insincere ‘Hope you’re keeping well.’

Tristan, your statement below is completely ridiculous! Everyone has their share of accidents, especially Russia and China. The big exception to those two countries is the lack of coverage in these areas.. The only accidents that ever seem to get out of China are multiple fatalities that make international news, as their government has a pretty good collar on the news. Russia is not much different in that its people do not share much information about anything, let alone negative press. Accidents happen in every region, the only way to avoid them is to employ ongoing training and licensing requirements (both of which are in place currently in the US). I would love to know your capacity at Sarens, Mr. Mayes, as most well seasoned professionals in our field don't spew derogatory blubber about others based on their ethnicity or location. You seem to post a lot of pictures online of yourself leaning against machines with someone else in the seat, I wonder if you even know the difference between lever "a" and lever "b".

Good evening Ray hope your keeping well, number 1 I don't accuse other countries in having many accidents just the USA, and that's cos you do have many accidents, and using a excuse like your a lot bigger than lots of other countries is a very bad argument cos Russia and china don't have as many as you lot over the pond. And yes I'm aware us here in the UK also have some accidents but its rare and we also learn from our accidents unlike America and there problem with lifting trees and bath tubs. The reason I didn't mention Sarens is because they for such a large company have a very good safety record and they learn from there mistakes and I have a lot of respect for the Dutch they are very good with cranes and heavy lifting, maybe the American government should start to employ some Dutch German and English to come over and point out your problems, but just like your gun control problems you won't listen and just say its your rights.
Tristam I noticed you didn’t make the same kind of foolish comments about the SARENs crane crash posted on this same site where the rig slammed it’s way thru a house.
OK Tristam, maybe racist wasn’t the best word for your nationally ignorant remarks. You have consistently put down other countries, particularly the US as having less competent, less trained, less qualified crane operators than the UK, and claim we have more accidents than other countries too. Your statements aren’t really true, but you still insist on throwing it out there every chance you get, to somehow make others that read you bs think you are better than we are. The only reason we could ever have any more accidents than your country is that the US has sooooo many more cranes, projects and operators, due to the tremendous geographical size difference. The UK is smaller than many of our states and we have at least 50 states. Our apprentiship/training programs and testing are every bit as good as your’s are. We probably have more new comers alone in the work place than you have in your entire crane industry over there, so it would only make sense that some of the newbies are going to make some errors, just like you fellows do in all the accidents that I see and read about from the UK. The interesting difference between you and the many thousands of great operators we have over here is that we don’t compare ourselves to you and your coworkers in a way that is so arrogant, rude, false, and uncalled for. Our brothers and sisters of the hook look at all crane accidents and try to find a cause, then learn from others mistakes. You on the other hand only look at the ones in the US, even tho there’s plenty right there in the UK, and then make statements like you did earlier, which really helps no one understand how the rig went over or why. That’s counter productive in regards to helping others, since there’s several ways that rig could have gone over that would not have been operator error, but you assumed it was lack of training. You speak of the US crane industry, but know nothing about it, having never been here in our work force. I always praise the equipment from the UK and the impressive projects they are doing over there on a regular basis. No belittling the other side, no comparisons, insults, nor insinuating that they are anything at all but true professionals. And if you choose to stay in the business long enough you’ll see that even pros have their share of mistakes. The boom going over backwards could have been addressed by contemplating the scenarios, events that could lead up to it, the possibilities that could put the wheels of failure in motion, but you did what you always did on the fb crane operators site. You took a jab at the US, but this time in a underhanded way, in your assumption without the facts. It was no surprise at all either, coming from you that way.

Alan, all things being equal as U.K. is the size of Oregon (the 10th largest state in the US) it would only be fair to compare all of the U.K. crane incidents to only Oregon.

Hello Ray, I hope your are keeping well, I'm well aware of the rules of Vertikal.net and will stick to them as well, I'd like first for you to explaine where you think my comment was "racist"?? And I'd like to also point out that in your country your are having a lot of accidents involving cranes and most are all the same type and I can't understand why your industry ain't learning from there many mistakes?? If you could should some light on this without pulling the race card out every 5 minutes that would be nice.
Old Sweat Old Sweat
Just an observation.......there does seem to be a lot more crane accidents over in the States than here in the U.K.
Steve Sparrow
Actually Ray, his comments are xenophobic, not racist.
Since when is it against the rules to poke Americans? ;-)
It's also not against the rules to be ignorant. If it was, there would be little said on the internet.
@ ray little to quote jack nickholson YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Just a thought :-)
The policy reads that no racists comments will be tolerated. Let’s see how long you go here before they all see thru your racists and ignorant comments Tristam. Your ignorance of the rest of the craning world surfaces here too. You didn’t last very long on the other sites before they banned you, and you already got a head start right out of the box with this comment here. I see accidents on the web all the time from your country and never once suggested it was a country without training. Never once suggested our operators were better than the others from elsewhere. You on the other hand have a habit of insulting any operator that isn’t from the UK as being inferior. Each country has it’s great and not so great men and women of the hook so maybe you can wrap your head around the fact and try to quit insulting everyone else while your at it.
HLsup.
Therefore, an "operator training" is so important. For some companies it is a boarding, for other an investment...
Tmayes
It's cos we have a thing in the UK called "operator training" at least it wasn't a tree or hot tub this time, that will be tomorrow.
Odd how these boom over the backs only seem to happen in America... when was the last UK or European one ?
