JCB to supply Magni Telehandlers

JCB has signed a long-term agreement to supply engines to new Italian telescopic handler manufacturer Magni Telehandlers.

The company will supply its Ecomax Tier 4i engines for Magni’s new seven model range of 360 degree telescopic handlers, which offer lift heights from 18 to 30 metres.

JCB claims that major benefits of its Ecomax engine is fuel consumption - with savings of up to 10 percent compared to its Tier 3 counterpart - and savings in maintenance and servicing as the engine runs on standard engine oils, with no additional service requirements.

JCB chief executive Alan Blake said: “As a family company Magni shares the same core values as JCB and is driven by innovation. We are delighted to have secured an agreement to supply engines for this new product as it builds on the growing success we are experiencing with engine sales to third parties.”

Magni president Riccardo Magni, added: “JCB’s innovative approach to Tier 4i engine development brings real fuel saving benefits to customers. 30 years experience in the design and production of rotating telehandlers together with JCB Ecomax engines will be a great force to be reckoned with.”

Vertikal Comment

There has been a great deal of discussion about negotiations between Magni and JCB about the former supplying the latter with JCB branded 360 degree telehandlers.

We understand that any discussions on this subject that may have occurred, certainly came to an end around a month or so ago. JCB has always denied the existence of such negotiations.
However by fitting JCB engines to its units Magni will be even better placed to offer JCB dealers a 360 degree product to market alongside the JCB product line.

Magni owner Riccardo Magni has made is and the family’s fortune from doing something similar with Manitou, moving from an independent manufacturer to a joint venture with Manitou to selling the business to the company and then managing what became Manitou Italia.

One has to believe that he sees a similar opportunity with JCB, even if JCB cannot see it…..yet.
