ABB acquires APS Technology

Power and automation specialist ABB has expanded its crane and harbour system portfolio with the acquisition of San Diego-based port solutions company APS Technology Group.

Established in 2002, APS is a supplier of automation solutions which identify containers, trucks, rail equipment and other transport assets for ports and intermodal container facilities. The company will now join ABB’s Process Automation division helping it to expand into the container terminal and supply chain markets.

Heikki Soljama, head of ABB Marine and Crane, said: “The acquisition of APS is an important milestone for us to expand our terminal automation offering and provide our customers with added-value integrated solutions. It is a good strategic fit for our existing solution portfolio, and will further strengthen our product portfolio.”

APS chief executive Russ Scheppmann added: “Joining ABB will enable us to extend our support and engineering capabilities as we expand into new geographic regions. Our customers will also benefit from ABB’s global reach in sales and service, and combined efforts in research and development projects.”
