First Igo 50 for Philippines

Manitowoc Phillipines has added a Potain Igo 50 self-erecting tower crane to its rental fleet, the first unit to arrive in the country.

The four tonne Igo 50 has a 23 metre under hook height with its 40 metre jib horizontal, at which it can lift 1.1 tonnes at the tip. The crane can also luff the jib to 20 degrees above horizontal, taking the maximum hook height to 33 metres.

As soon as the new crane was added to the manufacturer’s rental fleet it went straight to work on a project for local contractor DDT Konstract. Potain self-erectors are relatively rare in the Philippines, with only eight new units having been sold so far, they include six HD 40 A units and two Igo 42.

The Potain Igo 50

Manitiwoc Philippines sales manager Long Naaman said: “The appeal of self-erecting cranes like the Igo 50 lies is their fast and easy erection capabilities, without the need for large foundation works. In places where roads tend to be narrower, their compact nature solves many transport difficulties that might be associated with larger cranes, and their swift set-up and fold down capabilities means they are straightforward to move between projects. As infrastructure development gathers pace in the Philippines, and contractors seek greater efficiencies in their operations, we expect the Igo 50 and other Potain self-erecting cranes to gain wider approval. Yet at the same time, we also recognise that these cranes are still a relatively new product line for many construction companies. That’s why we’re offering a rental service to begin – so customers can understand the crane and its benefits without having to commit to a purchase.”
