Potain crawlers delivered
Swiss sales and rental company Stirnimann has received the final unit of a six unit order for Potain Hup C 40-30 crawler mounted self-erecting tower cranes.
Launched at bauma and developed as a Stirnimann Potain partnership, the four tonne Hup C 40-30 is the first Potain self-erecting tower crane to be mounted on crawler tracks, at least in terms of a production unit. Offering a hook height of up to 30 metres, it can handle 1,000kg at its 40 metre jib tip. An on board generator provides power for travel and set-up and also allows it to reposition when fully erected.
The crane has an overall travel length of 13.5 metres, a width of 2.55 metres and a stowed height of just over 3.7 metres. The crane can travel up or down slopes of 30 percent and manage side slopes of up to 12 percent. Once fully erected its can still handle slopes of up to five percent longitudinally and side slopes of two percent, while travel speeds are reduced from 25 to 10 metres a minute.

The Hup C 40-30 crawler has a fast compact set up
Stirnimann managing director, Fritz Oschwald, said: “The self-erecting Potain Hup C 40-30 is a truly innovative concept — it’s the first crane to be enhanced with crawler tracks for ultimate mobility. To build the rail flyover in Renens, Implenia has rented three Hup C 40-30 cranes for ten months. The feedback we have received so far is very positive. Thanks to the mobility of the crane on the job site, our client is able to get to work efficiently and make good progress.”
