Crane tips in Peterhead
A 120 tonne All Terrain crane belonging to GBK crane hire, tipped over backwards this afternoon at the Asco offshore supply base in Peterhead Scotland.

Rearward stability got this one thanks to its retracted outriggers
From the photograph it is clear to see that only one outrigger beam was extended, the boom was raised to it maximum elevation (boom angle) the superstructure was slewed and as soon as the counterweight went over the retracted outrigger the crane tipped over backwards.
Why the outriggers were not fully extended is not at all clear, this sort of accident though is a classic error.
