Good practice or ?

Last month a reader sent us a series of photographs from Liverpool with the tag good practice?

The photos, as you can see below show musicians performing from elevated locations in self propelled boom lifts, for the mechanical spider performances, one of the events that make up Liverpool’s year as European city of culture.

The lifts are being used in close proximity to large crowds of people with some special modifications. Take a look and let us know what you think.

The first reaction to these photos is horror that the lifts are being misused and that might indeed be the case on one unit unless it is a high capacity model. On the other hand the users might well have carried out a thorough risk assessment and determined that this was in fact the safest and most efficient way to achieve the effect they wanted.

It is also good to see self propelled lifts being used in a new way and no one wants to be a kill-joy.
